Key features and technology
In Multi-pass mode, the carriage moves back and forth across the surface of the material. The integrated micro-feathering algorithm distributes microscopic ink droplets to reduce visible banding and tonal inconsistencies. This provides uniform coverage of large solid areas, smooth colour transitions and accurate reproduction of detailed graphics.
Xenons Packjet PJ2800 uses plate-free printing technology. Jobs are printed directly from a digital file without preparing photopolymer printing plates. This shortens production setup, reduces preparation costs and makes individual prototypes, short runs and multiple packaging variants economically viable.
Printing is performed by industrial Epson i3200 printheads with variable dot technology. Different droplet sizes allow the system to combine precise reproduction of fine details with uniform coverage of larger printed areas.
A closed negative-pressure ink circulation system helps maintain stable printhead operating conditions, reduces the risk of nozzle drying and supports controlled ink consumption during production.
The integrated vacuum table holds the material in place during printing. Strong suction improves the positioning of sheets, including curved or uneven corrugated board. This reduces the risk of media coming into contact with the printheads and helps maintain accurate colour registration.
The printer can be integrated with a QR code and production code scanning system. Once a code has been scanned, the correct artwork can be retrieved automatically from a database and sent to print. This streamlines multi-job production, reduces manual operator input and limits the risk of selecting an incorrect file.
Advanced RIP software supports artwork preparation, colour management and automatic job queuing. This allows the Xenons Packjet PJ2800 to become part of a fully digital workflow in a modern packaging plant or printing company.
Depending on the selected configuration, the printer can use water-based pigment inks or inks cured with UV LED technology. The digital production process does not require printing plates to be washed between jobs, reducing technological waste and wastewater associated with traditional plate-based printing methods.
Applications and printing capabilities
Xenons Packjet PJ2800 is designed for packaging manufacturers, digital printing companies and corrugated board converters producing short and medium production runs. Plate-free printing allows operators to switch rapidly between different designs without preparing or replacing printing plates.
The machine can be used to produce:
- e-commerce packaging, including shipping boxes, die-cut boxes and cartons with branded graphics,
- personalised packaging with variable graphics, markings, serial numbers, codes or customer information,
- subscription boxes for the cosmetics, food, fashion and lifestyle sectors,
- product packaging for new launches, seasonal campaigns, limited editions and short production runs,
- packaging prototypes for presentations, structural testing and artwork approval,
- large-format packaging for furniture, industrial products and interior equipment,
- POS displays, floor displays, cardboard shelving and retail promotional materials,
- cardboard advertising elements, including signs, decorations, display boards and promotional structures.
A printing width of up to 2.8 metres enables the machine to process large sheets of corrugated board and reduces the need to divide projects into smaller sections. This is particularly important when producing displays, furniture packaging and large-format promotional elements.
Compatibility with brown board, white board, solid board and corrugated board allows the substrate to be selected according to the product and the required visual effect. Supported materials include E, B, C and BC flute, Kraft paper and coated cardboard.
Direct printing from digital files makes it possible to use multiple designs within the same production run. Each package can feature different artwork, promotional content, language versions or product markings without stopping the machine to replace a printing plate.
Xenons Packjet PJ2800 is also suitable for on-demand production. Packaging can be printed after an order has been received, reducing the need to store large quantities of pre-printed cartons and making frequently changing designs easier to manage.
